1. Check Your Old Pole Barn for Rotting Posts

Dig down about six inches at the base of a post.
Inspect the wood. In the first six to eight inches, you'll be able to tell if there’s rot.

2. Inspect Roof Fasteners
Are your roof screws or nails coming loose?
Stand on the ground and look up the roof at an angle.

3. Look for Leaning

Use a level on the posts to measure the angle.
